3 Things To Help You Be More Organized Today

Save This For Later...

Regardless of what you have going on in your life right now, I bet you’re feeling like you could be at least a little more organized. I mean, that’s why you’re here right?

It doesn’t matter how organized I am, I always feel like there’s a tweak I could make or like I could be doing something better. Really, we should be cutting ourselves a bit more slack because I’m sure you’re getting more done than you think you are.

But still – being organized isn’t something we always are, but it is something we will always need to work on.

So, with that being said, there are 3 things you can do to help you be more organized today. You might find that some of these things are so simple that they may not make a big difference, but I promise, it’s the simplest tasks that make the biggest differences.

Add these three things to your day to feel more organized and less overwhelmed (and they really do work!).

Feeling disorganized in your day? You're not the only one! Here's 3 super simple ways you can be more organized in your day, get more done, and feel less overwhelmed.

1 – Make a Top Three List

This isn’t your to-do list, this isn’t your ‘what I want to get done today’, this is all about determining what your top three tasks are that absolutely MUST get done today.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the massive list of things you need to get done each day.

This is why we need to narrow down and focus on our top three things that need to get done, and that cannot possibly be missed.

These are the things that you will sit back at the end of the day and feel like you’ve achieved what you needed to because these three things were done.

They make you feel like you’ve moved the needle the most, like you’ve actually accomplished the important things for the day.

You also need to make sure these three things can actually be achieved in a day.

There’s no point in adding a task like ‘paint the house’ to your top three because it’s impossible to paint a house in a day.

These tasks are all about helping you achieve your goals, regardless of how small the task is.

2 – Do One Thing Today To Help You Tomorrow

How many things do we put off to tomorrow and wish that we had been a little more organized and had a little more forethought?

Each day I ask myself what I can do to help future me – what would tomorrow’s Krystal be grateful for me doing today?

One of the things I do regularly that makes the absolute world of difference is packing school lunches the night before.

It was a routine I had gotten into and didn’t realize how much mental stress it saved in a morning until I missed doing it one night.

The next morning was chaos and I vowed to always pack lunches the night before.

For you, it could be something different.

Perhaps it’s laying out your clothes to wear the next day? Putting a load of washing on each day so you don’t end up with Mount Washmore at the end of the week. Or even meal planning (love meal prep and meal planning!).

This is all about taking care of future you and doing what you can to make her life that little bit easier.

3 – Plan Your Day

Again, this is not your to-do list, this isn’t about all the appointments or what you’re having for dinner.

But rather, this is about planning out the schedule of your day by determining what needs to be done, grouping like activities to make your day run more efficiently, and most importantly, being in control of your day!

Check out the video above for more details about how I map out my day (around 4 min in).

I also section out my day and create routines in order to make sure we don’t have to think so much about what happens, so our kids know what is expected of them and what is happening.

This means regardless of whether I’m home with the kids or my husband is home (we job share so we share our work hours), all of the things that need to get done, get done.

Feeling disorganized in your day? You're not the only one! Here's 3 super simple ways you can be more organized in your day, get more done, and feel less overwhelmed.

Being more organized doesn’t mean you have to be doing more things.

It doesn’t have to be overwhelming or complicated. It doesn’t mean you have to plan every single detail of your day down to the last minute.

It simply means doing these three things every day, to make sure everything runs smoothly, to make sure the things that need to get done, gets done, and helping yourself out with a little forward planning to help the future you.

Hopefully, doing these three things will help you be more organized today and help you feel like you’re in control and less overwhelmed.
